Any down side to split/extended partitions? |

Is there any significant down side to running dynamic disks with split
partitions?
I.e., say a server had a C: and D: on the same basic drive. I move D: to
another drive, erase the old D:, convert the drive to dynamic and use the
space to extend C:. So far as I can see, C: is now equivalent to JBOD
spanned (as opposed to striped) partitions on the same spindle. I'd expect
slightly poorer performance than a single contiguous partition, and
slightly greater problems with fragmentation.
Aside from that, is there any particular reason to get iconoclastic about
running a single contiguous partion rather than split? Where I've seen it
done, I can't say I've seen much problem with it.
