Help: Doc Workspace copies are overwriting each other |
|
|
hi--
I'm at my wits end-- I left sanity a few days ago...
have created Document Workspace from file in site library.
have created local copies from SAVE UPDATEABLE COPY process.
Open local copy and "GET UPDATE FROM WORKSPACE"-- this is cool
THEN --- ???
We can never get past this-- if I "upload" the local copy back to the
Workspace copy-- I always get "conflicts" and must chose either the workspace
copy or the local copy to ENTIRELY replace one or the other--- and that's
with only 1 person working on the files (me-- testing)--- how in the world
will this work when I have multiple people collaborating on a document....
OK-- I have multiple people workin on a document-- each one is working on a
"local" copy, each one "gets an update" when their local file is open. AND
every time they Update back-- they overwrite the file and replace it all---
Some times, the individuals get messages that someone has updated the
workspace copy-- do you want to update? and if you say yes, everything on
the local copy is replaced with the workspace copy-- NOW, I puposely have my
individuals working on separate areas of the file (which is Excel)--
How come we're not SYNCing?
Are we using this system wrong?
Is this actually the way it works and I read the promotional materials wrong
in saying that it allows multiple people to work on the same document....
of course, I am the first person in our company to explore all of this....
any advise and experiences as well just general sympathy is appreciated--

To be honest what you need is a proper offline sync tool such as revelation
or groove . I would personaly look at revelation first though as it is a
very good package and reasonably priced.

It ain't particularly simple, but check out this four-part series that
explains how to do it:
