Why do I get this message when I have just created a new virtual server in

Hi Simon,
A question did you do something with FPSE2002? Like first trying to create a
portal site with FPSE2002 installed and then uninstall FPSE2002?
Kind regards,

If you just created the virtual server just say ok and extend with
SharePoint. I have seen the message before in test environments. I have
always just clicked through and went on without issue.
Just my experience.

Has this virtual been previously extended with Sharepoint Services? By
default, installing Portal on top of a services site will unlink all site
entries

Re: create a portal |

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions. The problem has been sorted. The
virtual server error mislead me as when I looked closely at the portal
creation log file, it turned out to be a database problem.
Portal creation job exception, cannot create file portaldatabasename.mdf as
it already exists (Error code: 5170)
after deleting the database, I could then create a portal using the same
portal name as before.

Re: create a portal |

Hi Mark,
I don't think that's the problem, because I have tried several times
deleting and recreating virtual servers in IIS and then trying the portal
creation but I still get the same error.
If I go to the 'Extend an existing virtual server' page, the new virtual
server I am trying to create a portal on says 'Not Installed Extend' under
the version column, whereas the portals that already exist display
'6.0.2.6568' only under Version.

Re: create a portal |

You might be right Mark, as when I tried just now to extend the 'new' virtual
server I got the following message:
The configuration database shows that the virtual server has been extended
already. To extend this virtual server, click "Extend and map to another
virtual server" in the Provisioning Options section of the Extend Virtual
Server page.
