Re: Delegated subdomains |

If you had used stub zones in place for the delegated subdomains instead of
straight delegations this problem wouldn't have happened as a stub zone
automagically updates name server information (those which are added and
removed for the domain that it is a stub for) as it changes. But back to
the root cause of your problem, I would say your clients were pointed at the
two DNS servers which went down as their preferred and alternate DNS and
your third DNS which you did not bring down as the "tertiary" (third) DNS
server and perhaps the DNS client resolver did not failover fast enough to
the working third causing the client to believe the records could not be
found.

We recently had a problem with delegated subdomains.
2 of our 3 nameservers went down (planned). We still had a couple of
servers running the subzone. De delegations for this subdomain were set
to the 2 servers that went down and 1 other server that was still up
and running.
However, clients were unable to retrieve the dns info for that zone,
causing a lot of websites and servers to become unreachable. Once we
removed the 2 servers from the delegation and added another server all
the servers were reachable again.
If I am correct, all the clients should receive answer from the only
server running.
Can anyone tell me why this wasn't happening? |
