Hi Guys.

We have a Windows 2000 Standard Server which has an External Dell Powervault
array attached via a SCSI connection using a dedicated SCSI adapter. All
Disks are NTFS. Powervault has about 500GB data on it.

Due to a problem with our backups, which are taking forever, there is a
possibility that I may need to rebuild the OS on the Server. I'm going to
put Windows 2003 onto the machine with a fresh install, due to supposed
registry problems which are causing the slow backups. Backing up the 500GB
will take about 2 + days. I'll take this and do the backups cause it'd be
MAD no to.

My question is this. Does the change from 2000 to 2003 make any NTFS
changes? Would be we better installing the OS with the external array
attached or detached? If I do it detached, then atach the external array
afterwards, will this mean that the 2000 version of NTFS is incompatible
with the new install of 2003? Or is it safer to install Windows 2003 with
the array attached?

This is a major issue, as the data on the array is vital.

Hope this is all clear, but i can clarify if necessary.

I should add that the 2000 server is fully patched and up to date.

Many Thanks

John
