I rebooted our SBS2003 server tonight and it will not come back up. I get a
BSOD and then it reboots and repeats. I booted in safe mode and the last
item before the reboot is windows\AppPatch\drvmain.sdb.

I googled this and see numerous people with similar problems but no
solution. I have a call into MS Support but they are backlogged tonight and
will call me back shortly.

Does anyone have a solution? I really need some help.

Did you install a driver update?

Without the BSOD code it's a little hard to help.

Failing hard drive / corrupt system partition? > Take the system drive
out, install replacement drive, restore from backup.

Susan, I recently installed an HP USB Tape Drive. The BSOD comes and goes
so fast that I can't catch the data. (do you have a suggestion).

Jim suggested the hard drive. It's RAID and i really doubt that's it. USB
drivers for HP Tape Drive are more likely.

Is there anything on the setup disc that might help me? Perhaps Recovery
Console? MS Support seems to be totally unavailable tonight. 2 hours on
hold....

get into safe mode and take out that driver

Try this..

*Disabling the “restart on system failure” feature* may permit the exact
cause to be isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties,
click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings.
Under “System Failure,” uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart.”

If you can hang on until Support comes on the line.

I don't like to mess with a domain controller without Mothership help
when they are BSODing like this.

Thanks for the reply.

That's one of the 1st things I tried (I saw the same post) and it did not
helpl

Do you think that the Setup Recovery Console will help me? I've never used
it.

Can you unhook that tape drive?

Thanks Susan,

I'll give them another call. The 2-3 other times I've worked with them has
been a very worthwhile experience. I've just never experienced the waiting
time like I had last night.

Thanks again,

I had a similar problem recently.
I ran the verifier utility and when I restarted the system verifier
identified that the HP USB driver may be the source of the problem.
MSS suggested disabling the "USB Mass Storage Device" under "Universal
Serial Bus Controllers" in the Device Manager.
This seemed to stabilise the problem for a short period.
Check on the version of this driver. I think that the latest one is
6.5.2000.0 dated 18/7/2005
When it started to crash the driver version was 6.4.1010.0 dated 1/4/2005
I have another server that has an earlier driver installed and that one is
stable.

Check the event log and see if you are getting a stop 50 error ?

I'm not sure that it has cured the problem that I am having because there
seemed to be a problem also with the anti-virus driver and the server has
crashed again since but now that I have read your post it sort of leads me
into thinking the USB DAT could be the source of the problem.
