Experts,

Running Windows Server 2003 SP1, with Exchange SP1. This is a single-server
pointing to itself for DNS and running Active Directory. The zone is
standard primary with Secure and Non-secure updates set to 'Yes'. Question
for you, about the startup order of services.

1) DNS starts
2) NetLogon starts, which is dependeant on DNS being started
3) lsass.exe starts, which is basically Active Directory.

My question is, how come we do not see lsass.exe listed under "Services".
Ok, I give you that is not a service you would want to ordinarily "stop".
Wouldn't it be cool if we could easily stop it though?

The Display Name of lsa for the Services MMC is "Security Accounts Manager".
I strongly recommend against changing this through the services snap-in.
This service/process is fundamental for Windows to operate properly. If you
change it, your server will likely crash.
