Fax service don't send delivery receipt. |
|
|
Continuing to setup the SBS 2003 Fax service the last problem remaining
is this one.
In the vent viewer every time i send a fax i got this event id: 32087
"The fax service has failed to generate a positive message box delivery
receipt."
With error code nš:0x000008E1, wich i found out that means user name
could not be found. But in the event id text, the domain\username
appears correctly.
The username is different from the email address, could it be that the
Fax service is trying to use the login name to send an email to and not
the user email address?
Thank you.

Hello Fernando,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
According to the event errors, most likely that the Fax Delivery Recipients
failed to be sent to the client computers. Do the client computers receive
the delivery recipients successfully once they send out the faxes?
If the clients fail to receive the delivery recipients, did the problem
begin to occur just recently or right after the installation of SBS 2K3?
To probably configure the Fax Delivery Recipients, please check the
following options:
1. Open Server Management Console.
2. Right-click Shared Fax, Select "Properties", select "Receipts" tab.
3. Check \Message Box\Enable Message Boxes as receipts.
4. Make sure "Enable SMTP Receipts e-mail receipts delivery" is enabled.
5. The value in "From e-mail address" should be
SBSFaxService@domainname.com. For example, SBSFaxService@MySBS2K3.LOCAL.
6. Server address should be the NetBIOS name of your SBS 2K3 server, such
as SBS2K3.
7. Port is 25.
8. Authentication: only check ''Anonymous access''.
9. Check mark in "Use these SMTP Settings for the Route through E-mail
incoming routing method".
10. Restarted Shared Fax service
Couple of notes:
1. Messenger service should be started and set to automatic (required by
the delivery notification) on both the SBS server and client computers.
2. Non Windows NT/2000/XP clients do not have the built in API for the "pop
up" notification, so email would be the means for FAX sent notification.
For your reference, you may refer to this link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechn
ol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/entserver/fxsadmin/FaxS_H_MailRcpt.asp
If the issue persists, please help to gather more information for further
research:
a. Where did you find the Event ID 32087, server side or client side?
b. Does this issue occur on one client workstation or several?
c. On the server and one of the problematic client workstations, run
"eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check whether there is any error. If
yes, double click it, click the Copy button and paste the full content to
the Newsgroup.
Hope this information helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to
let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee

Hello Brandy,
In the server the messenger service was running, in the workstation i
can't find the messenger service. It was the Alerter service, it was
stopped i started it but it didn't work out.
The errors i was showing i get then in the server, in the workstation i
don't receive any error.
I also tried to change the option to instead of showing a popup, to send
a email. But that didn't work out either. I've checked the SMTP details
on the FAx service, and i also tried to change the @domainame. To the
local domain name, FAX Service was usign the outside domain name.

Hello Fernando,
Thank you for posting back!
In your reply, you mentioned "can't find the messenger service. It was the
Alerter service". I have following questions:
1. How many client workstations in SBS 2K3 Domain?
2. Does messenger service miss on all client workstations or several?
3. Are all clients unable to receive fax receipt or some of them cannot
receive?
4. What is the version of the problematic client workstations? Win 2K, Win
XP SP1 or Win XP SP2?
5. When did the issue occur? Could clients receive fax receipt before?
6. Can your domain clients receive/send emails correctly?
7. For your suggestion:
On one of the problematic client workstation, open a command window, type
"Net Start Messenger" (without quotation marks) to start Messenger Service.
If you still cannot start Messenger Service in this method, what is the
error message? Please copy and paste the exact error output to the
Newsgroup for research.
I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Brandy,
In the server the messenger service was running, in the workstation i
can't find the messenger service. It was the Alerter service, it was
stopped i started it but it didn't work out.
The errors i was showing i get then in the server, in the workstation i

I also tried to change the option to instead of showing a popup, to

I'm not sure it matters but the SBS2k3 box with the OEM version has a
fxsroute.dll date of 5-11-2005 whereas the box with the non oem version is
dated 3-24-2005.
The oem version first failed to route faxes to email on 10-28-05 all other
routing methods work (printer, sharepoint, harddrive).

Hello Brandy,
After some time i finally gather some info.
Answering the several questions:
1. It's 9 client workstations.
2. In several. Most of them don't have it installed.
3. Regarding this, when the delivery receipt is to be sent by email none
of the clients receive them. If the popup method is used only the ones
that have the messenger service, and have it running can receive it.
4. All the workstations have Windows XP SP2.
5. This is a new issue, because the fax service is being implemented now.
6. Yes, every client can receive and send emails with no problem.
My question now, how to install the messenger service. I've tried some
methods i've found searching the web but none managed to install the
messenger service.
The second thing is about the receipt being send by email, the error i
got is only in the server side:
Event ID: 32087
The fax service has failed to generate a positive message box
delivery receipt.
The following error occurred: 0x000008E1.
This error code indicates the cause of the error.
Specifying the domain/username.
Again thank you for your help.
Regards,
Fernando

Thank you for posting back!
I am sorry that I have not got a very important information from you:
On one of the problematic client workstation, open a command window, type
"Net Start Messenger" (without quotation marks) to start Messenger Service.
If you still cannot start Messenger Service in this method, what is the
error message? Please copy and paste the exact error output to the
Newsgroup for research.
This step is very important for us to know whether the Messenger has been
installed or not. Thanks a lot for your time and I am looking forward to
hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee

Hello Brandy,
After some time i finally gather some info.
Regards,
Fernando
