User access question |
|
|
I'm bowing to the extensive experience I've seen here already. We're
deploying Portal and WSS to a large department and the manager in change
wants a very granular access model. He would like user groups to be
categorized so that a person's access could vary on a site, and document
library level. For example, a user could have reader level site access,
reader level access to one document library, and contributor level access to
a second document library within the same site.
The challenge that I face is that administration of this model will be
transitioned over to our help desk, so making an AD group structure that
provides visibility to every site, and every object within that site does not
seem feasible. Are there any methodologies that you follow to get around
this? Or perhaps, are there any custom webparts out there that may provide a
tree-view capability to these objects? I'm pulling out my hair here, and I'm
not sure how to proceed. |

I'm not sure I understand your question. There are a few tree view type
webparts:
Site Navigator here: http://sharepoint.advis.ch/
Workplace Viewer here: www.corasworks.com
DharePointExplorer here: http://www.thedotnetfactory.com/

I think you are asking how do I setup my AD groups so that it is easy for
the help desk to admin? And I think you described the way you have it now?
I think you have it about right. There is no easy way other than having a
bunch of groups. One piece of advice may to be create a new OU for just
SharePoint. At least then you can keep the chaos contained.
