When is Presence Updated? - 2 clients same SIP Account |
|
|
Does Communicator have some frequency at which it sends a "repeat" status to
the server? e.g. Its already sent the "away" status because of 15 minutes of
inactivity on the PC. Will it send "away" again with every 15 minues of
inactivity?
This question came up after a user asked me about loggin in from 2
workstations.
e.g. If a user is logged into her SIP account from 2 different communicator
sessions from 2 different workstations, which will update the presence
information?
On Thursday she logs in to Communicator in the office, locks her workstation
at the end of the day without logging out and goes home. On Friday she VPNs
in, starts Communicator. I see her presence change from "away" to "on-line".
The question is - will the locked workstation at the office continue to
update the presence and change the status back to away - even though she is
working from home?
Thanks

Joe,
If you log into Communicator and then go home and log into Communicator
again from another work station, your presence will be updated to whatever is
was set to last.

Joe -
I agree 100% with Randy, and want to add two small items.
Brian Ricks had a nice post regarding forking and how the clients work. It
was on 11-11 and entitled Re: Windows Messenger signed in at two different
locations.
With WM, it was possible to allow the user to have only one connection at a
time. This would force the other client (the office client, in this case)
to sign-out. While I haven't tried it with Communicator, it may be possible
to do this, too.
