NLTest with two adapters |
|
|
On my Windows XP Pro computer, which has two network cards on different
subnets (and is not usually joined to a domain), running NLTEST SC_Query
<domainname> gives:
I_NetLogonControl failed: Status = 1717 0x6b5 RPC_S_UNKNOWN_IF
Is that because it doesn't know which adapter to talk to? If so, how do I
tell NLTEST which one to use? Or does NLTEST SC_Query work only when I'm
logged in to the domain? NLTEST /DCLIST:<domainname> works fine.
Thanks.

What does not usually joined to the domain mean? Connected or actually not
a member of?
Also, how is DNS configured on each NIC and do you have two different
gateways' configured? What are the two different LANs?

My "main" computer has one adapter that goes out to the company's hub,
from there it can connect to shares on the company's server, and to the
Internet through the DSL gateway. By "not joined to the domain", I mean
that even though I share folders on the company's AD server, I have my
computer set up as a member of a workgroup (in Control
Panel/System/Computer Name). This workgroup consists of my "main"
computer and my "other" computer which is connected through the other
NIC to my main computer.
Maybe I am actually logged in to the company's domain. How can I tell?
Whenever I rerstart my computer, at the password prompt, I log in "to"
my local computer, not the domain.
The adapter that goes out to the company's hub has the AD server as its
DNS; the other adapter has no DNS addresses configured.
Anyway, I'm baffled by the I_NetLogonControl failed message from NLTEST.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Can you actually logon to the domain if you want? If so, you are a member
of the domain. If not, these NLTEST errors are to be expected as you are
not a member of the domain.
