Is there any way to change the settings for a certain site group? An example
would be to modify the Contributor site group so they can only add content to
certain lists?

I basically want all users to have "Reader" access, but would like to give
them the ability to respond to surveys and add their name to a sign up list
but not be able to modify anything else.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

If you go to the site administration, manage site groups, click on the
contributor site group and choose the link 'edit site group permissions'. Now
you are at the place where you can change the permissions for a certain site
group.
Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it. Alternative methods are always
great to have.

You can alternatively control it at the area level by selecting Manage
Security under the Actions menu for the area.

In portal you can't control permissions easily at a list or library level,
and you can't select which lists and libraries Contributors have access to
edit from a central location.
