Remove uninstalled Management Server |
|
|
Hi! I've MOM 2005 installed on a single Windows 2003 Server, I had to
replace that server, so I've installed a management server on the new server
and when both managemnet servers were up, I've reinastalled the original
server wich now is suppling another role.
The problem is that my new management server stills want to contact the old
management server, it will never find it! Is there a way to tell MOM that
there is only one Managmente Server running?
Thanks a lot!

Hello,
Thank you for your posting!
You should install the additional Management Server without Database, During
the installation, Please choose the existing MOM Database.
Or, You can use MOM to MOM Product Connector and Microsoft Connector
Framework to connect difference Management Group and Forward the Alerts
(MultiTiering). You can install MMPC and MCF from the MOM Product Disk (Not
included in MOM Workgroup Edition)
If you have any questions, please feel to let me know. I am glad to be of
assistance.

Re: Remove uninstalled Management Server |

|
I have SEVEN computer discovery rules.
5: Including computers from domains and standalone computers. Management
Server: SVR-02
1: Including my actual management sever. Management Server: SVR-02
1: Including my old management server. Management Server: SVR-01 (old
server)
The discovery rule including my old management server cannot be deleted or
modified. I cannot get rid of that rule, if I try to run computer discovery
I get the following error:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Operations Manager
Was unable to submit the request to the MOM Management Server
(the Microsoft Operations Manager service - MOMService.exe) on computer
SVR-01
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's logic, MOM will never find the MOMService.exe service running on
SVR-01.
How can I get rid of thet computer discovery rule including my old server?
Thanks for your reply Daniel!!!

First, You should modify the Computer Discovery Rule's Management Server
option to the SVR-02 and run the Computer Discovery.

Sorry, there was an error on my previous post, when I say:
"I still seen the uninstalled management server (SVR-02). But SVR-02 is
no
more a Management Server!
The question is how do I tell MOM that SVR-02 isn't a Management Server
anymore."

Thanks for your reply Daniel! I think you misundesrstood my question.
The situation is like this:
1) I've installed my first management server (SVR-01)
2) Then I've already installed an additional Management Server. (SVR-02)
3) For a week I had two management servers on my network, everything
went OK.
4) Then I've uninstalled the original (SVR-01) management server. The
only management server on my network is SVR-02
Now, If open the Administrator Console on SVR-02 on:
"Administration > Computers > Management Servers"
I still seen the uninstalled management server (SVR-02). But SVR-02 is
no more a Management Server!
The question is how do I tell MOM that SVR-02 isn't a Management Server
anymore.
Thanks a Lot!

Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm trying to do the same thing.
Fascinating that the docs don't even mention the possibility you might
downsize from two to one! |
