User connections |
|
|
Hi,
Wonder if any of you have came across this one.
8 users out of 50 have been affected, 4 can't connect to network resourses
but can connect to exchange server and the other 4 can't connect to exchange
but can connect to network resourses. All pcs are xp sp2, on logging on it
stalls at applying personal settings for ages before moving on to the desktop
eventually. Any help would be appreciated. |

What is the primary DNS setting on the clients, is it set to the SBS Server
or DC?
Have you checked the physical cabling and network hardware for bad ports?
You may want to reboot the network hardware. Switches, routers, IADs...

Primary DNS is set to SBS server and I have re-booted and reset all switches,
servers ect with still no luck. What i did do was log onto a spare pc with my
credentials, no problem, use one of the affected user accounts and no good.
Seems that the accounts have been corrupted in some way. No evidence in event
logs and AD seems fine.

I would try creating a new user account to see what happens. You may need to
restore the user AD account from your backups. Sounds like corruption or
viruses.

Tried creating new user account works no problem. Tried creating a new
account called user A after deleting user A dosn't work. Not a virus running
Trend SMB version 3.0 latest patt file Nothing found. Will try deleting user
A again and re creating it once propagation through exchange and AD has
completed Say 12 hours later. It will be a real problem if I cannot create
the same user accounts.

I would try an athoritative restore of the AD objects in question.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/Operations/690730c7-83ce-4475-b9b4-46f76c9c7c90.mspx
If this won't work try changing your user naming convention for those few
users having the issue and setup new accounts. You should be able to add an
email address for the user that allow them to use the old email. If not
export and import via PST/Exmerge. Good luck.
