System Policy Editor v Group Policy |
|
|
I've just moved to using Group Policy from System Policy Editor. I used to
have set start menu items held on a server share for our users by specifying
in System Policy' NTconfig,.pol file.
How do I achieve this with group policy?
I don't want the menus to be changed by the users and I don't want them to
be cached on the local machines or in the users home directory on the
server.
Is this achievable with group policy?
Any advice would be gratefully received

Do you have to have a shared start menu, or just a restricted menu? Both
are possible in GPOs (one is explicitly defined for each item (e.g. Hide
Search Menu on Start Menu), and one is located in redirected folders.

It's a shared start menu for each individual group of users.

Than you should use redirected folders in the users section of the GPO, and
apply it to all specified users.
There is an option for basic redirection (all users without checks), or
custom (using groups etc.)
