Hi,

Thanks for using SBS newsgroup!

For your description, I understand that you want to know if SQL server
express can be installed on the SBS 2003 server box. If I am off base,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

Can I confirm with you that the SQL server express is SQL 2005?

The release of SQL Server Express is still in beta and has not been
officially tested on the SBS 2003 environment. However, base on my
knowledge, if you install the SQL 2005 on the SBS 2003 server, there may
have many potential issues.

So, i would suggest that currently do not install the SQL 2005 on the SBS
2003 server. And some partner reported that the installation of SQL2005
would break a number of the SBS2003 uses of WMSDE.

You can upgrade your SBS 2003 standard edition to premium and get the SQL
server 2000 (SP3) to build your application. Additionally you can upgrade
the sharepoint WMSDE instance to SQL instance to turn on full-text search,
it is very useful to our work. For detail information, you can refer to the
following article:

How to turn on full-text search in Windows SharePoint Services on a Windows
Small Business Server 2003-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;837367

Hope above information helps! If you have any further question on the issue
please let me know. I am happy to be assistance of you and look forward to
your reply!

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

..Net framework 2.0 is fine on SBS, why would SQL2005 not be?

....but IMHO someone should go ahead and install - if it breaks, you can
always reinstall everything ;-) We're all going to need to know whether it
works sooner rather than, later, so why not be our beta tester?

Sounds like a volunteer to me! Let us know how it works.

Just note SBS 2003 isn't one of the Supported Operating Systems, but thanks
for the link.

Whoops. Let me quickly retract that, the documentation specifically states

support for SBS2003 SP1 standard and Premium.
There's plenty of other SBS relative caveats though.
