For clarification to all, we are talking about Trend's
Client/Server/Messaging Suite that many use with their SBS server. Trend
started to sent out emails yesterday announcing version 3 is now available
for immediate download for customers currently on version 2.
Nope, no catch -- except that the usual suggestion -- that you install and
test it first on your home or test server before installing it on a
production system, and that you should have a full backup of your server
befrore beginning. Although not necessary, I always like to reboot my server
prior to a major installation, just to confirm that it reboots without
problems BEFORE I make the major change.
Here's my experience: The download is a 291mb zip file. I went ahead and
installed it on my test server last night. I did an inplace upgrade from
CSM2 to CSM3. It took less than 30 mnutes to do the complete install, with
less than a half dozen prompt screens to answer. It was all pretty
auto"magic" and easy - and NO REBOOT required.
Some of the MVP's have been working and testing the new version 3 for the
last several months, and I'm sure they will be posting their usual list of
best practices for it. I do know that they have been paying particular
attention to the spam filtering part of the new software - trying to get
their hands around it, etc.

While I'm sure that Les, Kevin, myself and others tested this on SBS2k3....
but I'm 100% certain that any of us tested it on SBS2k (since this is the 2k
group). Unfortunately, I no longer have any more 2k servers around for
testing this... so my recommendation would be to either install it on your
own test box or wait until other people have validated it on 2k.
Of course, somebody might already installed it on 2k... so I will just be
waiting for them to speak up.
My $0.02,

I still think there is a catch somewhere. I bought my officescan from
cdw, i was using norton and they gave me the competitive pricing but i
got version 6 instead of 6.5 without the firewall (no biggy) the
firewall and the spam are far from great. I am using GFI on my
mailserver and i have a fortigate doing everything else. I was told
the renewal license was one third of the list price. I wonder if any of
this changed. |

This is not a renewal
This is a version upgrade. Your license will still expire at the time
designated, but you will have the new version.
