Can i have my my DFS root installed on my domain controller and my files and
shares sitting on a different server? If yes please can you tell me how?
How many roots or links i can have in a windows 2003 domain controllers?

Yes and yes. What you would do is create a root on the DC, and then create a
link that points to the shared folders on the other server. The Help for the
Distributed File System snap-in has procedures for these tasks.

Thank you for the comment. I have another one for you?
Is it possible when a host my DFS root in my domain controller windows 2003
to create multiple links under my DFS Root and have the maping to point
directly to the share bypassing the root name? for example my dfs root is
domain.int\public and my link is server_name\finance van i have my scripts
point to this:
domain.int\finance directly?
