DNS Dynamically Updating Issue |
|
|
Hi Everyone,
I am managing an Enterprise 2003 network with multiple domains. The issue I
am having is that when I build and incorporate a new server on the network it
gets assigned a DHCP address so that I can do the updates before bringing the
server into production.
Upon doing the updates and bringing the server off the network I then assign
it a static IP, the name of the server remains the same. Now the A record
created in DNS does not then change dynamically to the newly assigned IP, the
Server or workstation is configured to update automatically and I have even
used the Register DNS command, but still no change to the record on the DNS
server.
I end up having to manually change the A record at the server. Is there
something wrong here or is this normal? ANy assistance would be greatly
appreciated, Thanks in advance.

That's because DHCP owns the record. If it remained a DHCP client, DHCP can
update it. However, you can force it to work. Read this article, scroll down
