My office is in Atlanta USA and have a brach office in Austria and
servers loacated in Dallas. I implemented live communication server
enterprise edition and have a front end and a back end server. The
people at branch office in Austria can connect using office
communicator and communicate with some of our emplyees in Canada who
are working remotely by connecting over VPN. From my office on Atlanta
when i connect using communicator it connects but it take about 2
minutes to connect and when its connected it connects with the status
call forwarding and all the users are shown with the status unknown.

We have a VPN connection to all the offices.

Any suggestions.....................

Start with client logs (enabled via the registry) to understand what errors
the client is seeing. If your client can't keep a connection open to the
server, then the server won't be able to deliver presence notifications and
you'll see users as status unknown. As far as the call forwarding state,
that is controlled by the Action->Options:Phones tab from the client and can
be set different for each client.

If VPN is taking a long time to login, try removing all of your buddies and
see if it takes less time. The subscription to a large number of buddies
and the presence information for all those buddies can take awhile (for
large numbers of buddies), especially over slow connections.

Thank you very much for your response.

We have a permenant VPN connection to all our locations, now it does
not sign on with the status call forwarding, not the status is Status
unknown, I have tired connecting using both pool name and server name
both, behave the same way.

And i am in the testing phase and I have added only two users in my
list.

I have done LCS diag and
one one step it give 401 and the next step it gives 200 ok and connects
successfully.

Please help

Thanks

I'm not sure what the problem is from this message. Can you please provide
more details about the specific case you are failing in?

Things that seem to be an issue (please confirm or clarify):
1) Login over VPN from the Atlanta site seems to be slow and take 2 minutes
even though you only have two users in your buddy list
2) when you login from this site (Atlanta), presence doesn't seem to work
with other users
3) other sites (using VPN) all login fine and don't have problems

Can you IM other users from your site and can they IM you? Do you have
client logs from your login in Atlanta?

hi all

i'm new to google groups, i was trieing to find a solution for the LCS
and VPN problem but i did not find a solution in this group so i
decided to solve it my self.
i tried every thing that is related to LCS and all didn't work so the
problem is not in LCS
the problem is in the VPN Tunnel it self.
i decided to build a test environment with my firewall and a computer
connected directly on the outside interface of the firewall and the
inside interface connected to my network.
i used an vpn client 4.6 to test the VPN Connection and i found the
problem is the same.
i get a Call forwarding stat and the IM is not deliverd.
i tried not to encrypt the sip data to my server via the vpn tunnel and
problem still present.
then i tried to by pass protocol fixup with the command ( no fixup
protocol sip 5060 ) and ( no fixup protocol sip udp 5060 ) and every
thing is ok.

thats it

it works

Mahmoud!

Thanks, It worked for me as well. I knew that the problem was with PIX,
but what i went and did was executed fixup protocol sip 5060 and fixup
protocol sip udp 5060. After executing no fixup protocol every thing
works fine.

Thanks again for posting the solution.
