HI
I have a share folder (windows 2003) on the network , how can I configure
that the user
on the network can create new files, folders, modify content and change file
name.
but they cannot delete the file or folder.
(right now I can let them create the foldes but they cannot change the file
name)
Thanks a lot

You can't as modify gives the user the ability to delete the object. Write
will allow a user to create files and folders but not delete them. ---

I give users full rights to the folder and all contents to their personal
mapped drive on the server, their unique "U:" drive that each user has for
their own personal discreet and secure use, but I deny "delete" at the top
folder level so they can't accidentally delete their own personal folder.
Does this help?

right now the user could create files folder, but they can't change the file
name
if I grand them the right to delete file, they will be able to change the
file name and delete file
how can I configure so that they can CHANGE file name and at the same time
they cannot DELETE file?

From what I have experienced a user needs modify/delete permissions to
rename a file. You could however restrict users from deleting folders but
still allow them to delete/modify files by giving the users different
permissions for folder and subfolders than for files in special permissions
"apply onto" selection. Another consideration is if creator owner is present
the user who creates and then owns the files will also have creator owner
permissions applied which usually is full control. This allows users full
control of only files they create or own if general permissions for the
group that the user belongs to has more restrictive permissions. --- Steve
