We are in the process of developing a new version of our site. We have read
the article "Designing Your MCMS 2002 Solution for reusability" at the msdn
site
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnmscms02/html/CMSDesigningCMS2002Sol.asp
This is all well and we could try to adhere to the recommendations.

My question is, should we develop with VS 2003 and MCMS 2002 SP1 och should
we wait for or try to get hold of VS2005 and MCMS 2002 SP2.

With respect to the amount of time and money that is put in to an project it
would be nice to develop with the latest versions, especially if this would
later on have an impact on the upcoming Office 12 where we will find MCMS in
the future.

Hi John,

It really depends on your timescales.
From a purely technical PoV, it would be highly preferable to wait for SP2.
The ability to use Master Pages and other ASP.NET 2 features, along with the
ASP.NET provider model and SQL Server 2005 offers huge benefits, not least a
neater model for templates, increased perf and easier migration to O12.

However, as Microsoft have yet to state when exactly SP2 will ship - the two
statements so far "shortly after" Nov 7th, and within the Whidbey/Yukon wave
don't help much. If you were able to get MSFT to give you or your customer a
more practical timescale that would help your decision!

I would hazard a guess that SP2 is not far away - and indeed more info may
be forcoming the week of November 14th. But again that's just a guess!

If you end up going with pre-SP2, I would still strongly recommend
decoupling any custom code as described in the MSDN article!

Cheers
Spence

Hi John,

you should wait till SP2 has arrived.

Cheers,
Stefan
