Copying databases? |
|
|
Hi,
I've been working on a 'test' CMS installation, and now want to carry
everything over to a shiny new production server. The original server I
was working on will then be dismantled, reformatted and used for
something else.
I was wondering: is it possible just to copy the files across, use the
same IIS settings and point to the same database? Or should I use the
deployment manager?
Thanks,
Ben |

I would strongly recommend using Site Manager for that purpose - just export
and import on your new server, as well as copy the rest - folders with your
apps.

Site Manager decided it would crash every time I attempted an export,
so in the end I basically gritted my teeth and used the same DB -
worked like a charm. I can see there might be difficulties if both
servers were in production at once, but for a switchover there were no
problems at all. |
