Jason Tan or Bill or anyone else:

I have a Windows 2003 server with SP1. After I promoted it to a DC, I get
the below MSDTC Event 53258 application warning whenever the DC is rebooted.
Windows 2003 DC without SP1 don't get this appication warning. One solution
was given below but I don't understand how to implement it. Can someone
explain it in more details?

Your help is much needed and appreciated!

Thanks,
Ken

Event ID: 53258
======================
CAUSE:
The Network Service account used to run MSDTC did not have permission to
update the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC registry key.

RESOLUTION:
Either give this account Create Subkey and Set Value permissions on the key.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

Dear Ken,

Welcome back!

From your post, I understand that you are not very clear about the
resolution which I had provided you previously. Here, I would like to make
some clarification for the methods as below:

1. Start | Run Regedit

2. Locate the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC.

3. Right-click to MSDTC and select Permissions.

4. Make sure the Network Service account is listed. Click Advanced button.
Select Network Service and click Edit button, check "Create Subkey" and
"Set Value" Permissions.

Hope the information helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let
me know.

Best Regards,

Jason Tan
