Rule and Computer Group Hierarchy |
|
|
Hi all. Quikc question (fast answer too, I hope).
If I create an "all servers" rule group and associate it with a computer
group (all computers), then create a "web-server" sub rule group, and
associate it with another computer group (web servers), will alerts created
in the sub-group apply to servers that are in the "all servers" computer
group as WELL as the servers associated to the sub group?
Thanks. The web server people are getting alerts that ARE IIS related, but
are coming from servers NOT in the web servers sub rule group.
Best of the day!

It seems that if you assign different computer groups to different rule
groups within the same rule heirarchy, you can get instances where rules
apply to computers in groups that are actually "above" them.
Also, given that IIS alerts normally come from the IIS MP, have you
confirmed that the servers not in "web servers" computer group aren't picking
up these rules through membership of another group, eg Microsoft Windows 200x
IIS something?

Yes, |
to check it, look up an agent in the admin console, open the properties
an look at the rules deployed at it.
