I have a Dfs setup where my Dfs root and Dfs root replica are both
hosted on the system drives, C:\, of two servers (servers A & B) and
both the servers run on W2K platform. Now, I'd like to upgrade the OS;
however, I don't want to do a simple upgrade but rather a complete
rebuild where I will want to format the system drives and install W2K3
OS. I have the following plan:

1. Remove the Dfs root replica from the current Dfs setup. This will
remove any references made to the Dfs root replica share on server B.
2. Do the OS/platform upgrade on server B.
3. Create a new Dfs root replica hosted on a share on a non-system
drive on server B.
4. Remove Dfs root from the current Dfs setup. This action will remove
any reference to the Dfs root share on server A, and turn the Dfs root
replica hosted on server B as Dfs root since there is no other root
target.
5. Do the OS/platform upgrade on server A.
6. Use the Dfs hosted on server B to add a new Dfs root target hosted
on a share on a non-system drive on server A. My Dfs platform upgrade
is complete.

A couple of questions:
1. I am bit concerned with the fact that I am dealing with mixed
platform environments. Will it work without without impacting access to
Dfs links? Will it work in the sense that I don't have to rebuild the
whole Dfs topology?

2. A more complicated case would be a scenario that one or more Dfs
links is hosted on a non-system drive on server A or B. I am not
planning to format the non-system drive during platform upgrade. Will
there be an impact on my Dfs setup?

I'll appreciate if you would share your thoughts on this issue.
