Old school site needs a littel help till HIS in installed |
|
|
I have an SNA 4 SP4 server that is giving a lot of event ID 108 errors.
We will migrate to HIS 200x in the near future, untill then I need some SNA
4 tips.
I want to re-service pack SNA but am leary that it will overwrite the
current environment and have to re-config the whole thing. Any input would be
helpful.

Hi - you can happily re-apply SP4 to an SNA Server. I've done that several
times when files have become lost/corrupted/whatever. It won't damage or amend
the configuration.
It's always a good idea to have a backup of the config anyway - which is just
the com.cfg file.
Probably though your 108 errors won't be helped if you already have SP4 applied.
It's likely there is some sort of network issue between the SNA Server and the
mainframe, or internally within VTAM on the mainframe, that's giving you these
errors.

In addition to what Neil stated, have you changed your emulator? I've seen
some emulators cause the 108's in the past.

The following article explains one known cause of the Event 108 that was
fixed in SNA Server 4.0 SP4:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;275709
When these are reported it usually turns out they are caused by some sort of
network or communciation problem as Neil mentioned.

Thanks Charles. Nothing has changed with the SNA server nor the emulator used
by the clients. It is being used for a web based interface based on Siemens
Architecture. Netaccess is a web front end for clinical/patient care.
I just need to ferret out the communication error.

I thought all the Siemen's stuff had been upgraded by now <G>.
If the software or hardware had not changed, I would start looking at the
network to see if any changes had been made lately. Also, see my other email
regarding the sna4sp4 location.
