What kind of server hardware running Windows 2003 and SQL would be
recommended to backend a web application accessed by 500 simultaneous users?

I have a system with that type of work load. We have dual 2.2 Xeons and the
CPU hovers at 56% all the time. Now, the memory is only 4 GB and we use 2.5
GB most of the day. I would look at your memory needs and make sure that is
met. Just about any dual Xeon on the market will keep up with 500 users. The
prices are cheap, I have 3 dual Xeons for home use :)

Cheers,

Rod
