Cluster OS and Hardware Upgrade? |
|
|
I have an active/passive W2k/SQL2000 cluster. We want to replace server
hardware with new servers running Win2003 Enterprise.
Will the following work?
1. Evict the passive node.
2. Attach the new W2k3 node using the same name, IP, etc to the network.
3. Run the Cluster Wizard and join the new server to the cluster.
4. Fail-over the Active node to the new node and run for a few days.
5. Repeat the process for the other old server. |

Yes. You don't have to use the same name etc.

I wouldn't wait to long as I don't know what complications may occur with
two different OS's on the nodes.

Yes.
AFAIK this procedere is called rolling update.

Thanks. Since I am joining a 2003 node to a 2000 cluster. Do I need to do
the registry hack mentioned in 811272?

I didn't need it last week on my update. So I would say no. ;)
