Hi - recently I upgraded our network and since then it appears that I'm
experiencing DNS/DHCP problems. The server W2K (DC) is providing the dns and
the router is providing dhcp. Clients that don't have a static IP usually
receive the error in the event log "Automatic certificate enrollment for
local system failed to contact the active directory (0x8007054b). The
specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Enrollment
will not be performed." as a result they lose all network privledges
(printers, file servers, mail, etc.) A reboot fixes the problem. I checked
under the DNS settings on the server and when looking at foward lookup zones
it shows all clients without static IP's using there old IP's - not the new
ones from the DCHP server. It appears when they go for enrollment they can't
find the new address or group policy is preventing.

Hi

Just something I have notices you are far better using MS DHCP server rather
than the one in your router, this would be my first idea and then re register
all clients in DNS so they have the right host A record toIP mapping

MS DHCP works so much better with MS DNS and has far more options, it also
works much better with RIS but thats another story IMO

Regards

S
