we can't install Microsoft Office 2000's MSDE ver. 7 or SQL 7.0 into our
Small Business Server 2000, which has service pack 4. can anybody tell me
which MSDE version is compatible? we are thinking of optimizing our Access
database.

any help please?

Why would you want to? SBS2000 includes SQL Server 2000, which is a more
recent version of SQL Server.

Access will quite happily talk to SQL2000 just as well.
