Clustering question |
|
|
Hello everybody,
Kindly, I would like to ask a question on how to create a cluster server?
I'm planning to have a file server which will be clustered with an identical
server and another one running as a DC with a cluster manager.
My question is :
1) which of the servers should be windows 2003 enterprise or is it mandatory
that all servers running W2003 enterprise edition ?
2) Is there any online technical documents and ressources on how to set up a
cluster server with clear instructions ?
Thank you so much in advance for your time and your precious help.

Adam-
Two things:
DO NOT CLUSTER A DC. It's not supported as a configuration nor as a cluster
resource - you won't gain any availability here. AD has its own redundancy
mechanisms builtin and they work great.
All the nodes need to be 2003 Enterprise Ed.

the DC will not be clustered, but it will be a cluster manager console (to
host cluster configuration). does it also need to be 2003 entreprise editon?
Thank you

The DC does not need to be Enterprise Edition. Standard Edition works great
for a DC.

As long as the cluster service will not be running, it can be Standard
Edition.
