Alert forwarding in MOM vs. Computers in maintenance mode. ! |
|
|
Hi
I have create an alert rule that forwards all "Service Unavailable" but when
I put an computer in "Maintenance Mode" these alerts are also forwarded ?
How can I avoid this ?
NB: I have tried in the on the Advanced Tab, [Advanced] to change the
"Criteria description" with "Resolution state = new" but it seems that all
alerts, including from those computers in Maintenance mode, are received in
"resolution state= new". This resolution state are then changed for computers
in Maintenance mode !!

Hi Thomas,
I have some questions for you, so I can try to reproduce what you are
describing in the email.
1. Are you using MOM 2005 and MOM-to-MOM Product Connector for alert
forwarding?
2. Does the computer in Maintenance mode belong to the source or the
destination management group?
3. Are you puting the computer in Maintenance mode from the source or
destination management server?
Thanks,
Selma

Hi Selma
I am not using the MOM to MOM connector.
I am using SNMP trap to forward to another management product.
All computers are in the source MOM server.
Look forward to hear from you ;-)

Hi Thomas,
Which computer is in MaintenanceMode? The management server or the agent?
What is the computer in the alert (management server or agent)?
Thanks,
Selma

Hi Selma
1. On my Management server I have created an rule that forward all "Critical
Error" using an VBS script, which is insert on the respose tab
2. It set one of my agents in maintenance mode, because of maintenance.
3. I reboot the agent in maintenance mode.
4. My rule created in pkt 1. forwards an "Critical Error" from the agent in
maintenance mode ? I can not see this "Critical Error" in the operator
console, but got it forwarded ? How can that be
Best Regards

Hi Thomas,
Alerts that are generated while the computer is in MaintenanceMode are
inserted into MOM database with ResolutionState=Resolved. You might need to
change the Alert View properties to view the alerts with
ResolutionState=Resolved in the Operator Console.
And because the alert is only changed to ResolutionState=Resolved when
inserted into the database, the script reponse will always be executed (on
the management server or agent computer) in your case.
Now, if you are executing the response on the Management Server, you can use
MOM SDK Class Libraries to query if the Agent computer is in Maintenance
Mode or not. The SDK Class Libraries are in managed code and can only be
used on the Management Server.
You can check MOM 2005 SDK documentation at:
http://www.microsoft.com/mom/techinfo/productdoc/default.mspx
Thanks,
Selma
