False alert on Security Issue and SQL Services |
|
|
I often receive false alert regarding earlier client as indecated below:
Description:
A MOM 2000 SP1 or earlier client attempted to connect to the MOM Server, but
the server is configured to reject legacy clients. The agent attempted to
connect from ServerIP.
I actually do not have any earlier agent in my environment, all system have
already been upgraded to SP1. This alert even occur on a totally newly
installed system with MOM SP1, but I observed the alert is often generated
when the client are rebooted.
I do sometime also received false alert regarding SQL-Database or the
service itself.
Any idea?

We see this too. It appears to happen when agents fail to contact the
management server using the MOM 2005 protocol. If they fail to connect
to the management server, they will fall back and try to use the MOM
2000 SP1 protocol to connect. This is what triggers the alert. I
believe if this fails the agent will then fail over to a different
management server. I believe that you can safely ignore these alerts
and in fact you can disable the rule that generates that alert since
you have no MOM 2000 agents.

Thanks David, but what about the false alert on SQL Services. Do you
experience such problems as well?

We don't use the SQL management pack right now although I am working on
getting it introduced. I do know that there was a problem with the
script that determined free space in SQL databases. It would return
false alerts, often citing a database size that was negative. This was
caused by an incorrect formula in the script for determining free
space. It may have been fixed by now; this was several months ago that
I ran into this.
