FRS QUESTION |
|
|
I have been reading the posts, and believe that I have the answer to my
question, but I wanted to post it to see if anyone could verify.
I have a 2000 server and a 2003 SBS, the 2000 server is acting as my file
server and has faster (striped SATA) hard drives. But, I want to keep a
backup copy of data. I set up DFS with a replica on the 2003 SBS for backup.
I want all traffic to go to the 2000 server. I should be able to take the
replica offline for the 2003 SBS and still get replicated, is this correct?
Or am I thinking of it the wrong way?
If this makes more sense, I want the data replicated but not used.

I'm not sure what you mean by taking the server "offline" but you should
be able to just disable referrals from SBS server.

Re: FRS QUESTION |

With Server 2003 you can choose the direction of replication. I assume you
can also do this with SBS. So yes, you can have a link that points to two
folders but select one as preferred and only replicate the data from the
preferred replica.
I can't remember the exact terminology now, and can't get it as I'm in the
airport. Hopefully you'll understand what I'm on about. It's pretty simple
to find what I mean in the new GUI.
