SMTP question |
|
|
I have just moved from using a pop connector to collect mail to an SMTP feed.

well do you still have all the same settings in your POP connector? Where the MX records for your domain changed? If so, when?

Re: SMTP question |

Hi
I am using the same ISP just with an SMTP feed now. I went through the
Internet connection wizard again, disabling POP. Mail comes in and goes out
OK it's seems to be that mail gets held and is then delivered in batches

if you don't mind posting your actual domain name we can check some records and see what might be the cause?

Re: SMTP question |

You are not getting an SMTP feed
An SMTP feed is where the MX (mail exchanger) records for your domain point to an computer name such as mail.clcltd.com which is then resolved by use of an A record which says that mail.clcltd.com is located at IP address such and such (a static IP assigned to your external interface of your SBS server)
Look at the following and you'll see that the MX records for your domain seem to still be pointed to your ISP
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=clcltd.com

Re: SMTP question |

Seano,
To expand on Cris' answer you can do or have done the following:
create an A record defining your email server name and your external IP Address
create an MX record with priority 0 that points to your local mail server by IP address
create an MX record with priority 5 that points to your ISP's mail server by IP address
This will cause your Exchange server to collect SMTP mail, but if it should be unavailable, your ISP will collect it for you.
