VPN Client, Dynamic DNS not registering host name |
|
|
I have a (Windows XP) VPN connection to a W2003 RAS server, which has DNS
and DHCP (dynamicaly registering DNS)
The VPN client is set to obtain IP from the DHCP.
When the PC connect to the VPN server, a record is created in DNS as below
(same as parent folder) 192.168.0.19
Which is the RAS's DHCP assigned IP address.
The problem is I wish to connect to a share on the VPN PC, ie a printer
\\primehome\hplaserjet
So I need it to regiter the host name 'PRIMEHOME' and not (same as parent
folder) in the DNS
It appears the hostname is not being transfered from the DHCP server to DNS
server during the Dynamic update of DNS.
All other hostsnames for the domain work fine, its just VPN connected
clients.
Thankyou! |

The (same as parent folder) record should only be registered for a Domain
Controller, so that tells me you have RAS on your DC. Read this KB, make the
entries and add the records needed.
830063 - Name resolution and connectivity issues occur on Windows 2000
domain controllers that have the Routing and Remote Acce:
