If I've got a category that I didn't initially give a display name to. Trying
later to change the display name, hitting "Save and Close" in catalog manager
doesn't save it(neither does the "Save" button). Other than that , all the
other features in CatMan work properly.

You cannot change displaynames for categories in a virtual catalog which
are inherited from base catalogs.
I thought the Displayname text box is not enabled if the category is
inherited from the base catalog but I am not sure.

Yes, deleting the virtual catalog meant that I was able to change the display
name in the base catalog. Interesting too is that i had the same problem
doing this programatically as well: calling the save method wouldn't save the
info when dealing with the base catatlog while the VC existed. Once the VC
was deleted, calling the save method would work on the base catalog.
To make matters more confusing, I could change any of the properties that I
had added to the category definition both in CatMan and through code even
when the VC was present.
Anyways, thanks very much for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

I was trying to change it in the base catalog, not the Virtual catalog, so
i
figured that should work... guess not. ( the textbox is not disbled since i
wasn't dealing with the VC itself)

You cannot change displaynames for categories in a virtual catalog which

I thought the Displayname text box is not enabled if the category is
inherited from the base catalog but I am not sure.
Thanks

It is, and I deleted the VC and now it works...
Why is that?

If I've got a category that I didn't initially give a display name to.
Trying
later to change the display name, hitting "Save and Close" in catalog
manager
doesn't save it(neither does the "Save" button). Other than that , all
the
other features in CatMan work properly.
