I have a 2003 sp1 dc that keps going into journal wrap errors because of a
DFS share that I have set up. I am going to pull the DFS share off of this
server. Do I need to do a nonathoritative restore before deleting the root
target, or can I do it after, so all of the information is not replicated
over the network?

I would think you can remove the root without needing to do a restore.
However, if you are in any doubt you should do the D2 first.

Are you aware though, that you can change the size of the journal?

It is 512MB by default and can be increased quite considerably.

Yes I know I can increase the journal size, but I am going to be pulling the
root target off of this server anyway. It is on an external drive that is
having issues, which is causing the journal wrap errors. That is why I was
hoping to deltete the root target first, so I don't have to worry about
getting a successful D2 restore with all of the replication before deleting
the root target. I figured if I remove the target first, and then do the
restore. It would come up and see that it had been reomved from the DFS and
restore itself as a replication parner with the other DC, but not go through
with the replication of the DFS.
