Server not responding error |
|
|
(Sorry I have posted this in an SBS4.0 thread instead of SBS2000)
Dear all,
I have sbs2000 with 35 clients. Shared folders(mainly word and excel files)
and some of the application(Access based database) is running from the
server. Some times we are getting an error server not responding - this is to
happen when we open a file and kept open for some hours, and when we back and
type something on top of the file it says cannot save the file or connection
to the server is lost etc, but the server connection is on.
How can rectify this?
pls advise
Regards

Dear,
Thanks for the response, I couldnot back yesterday.
I have checked the server autodisconnect parameters - it seems I have
already disable this feature(Registry lanman server\paramater shows the value
- 65535).
It is quiet strange why it is happening.
Yesterday I have noticed from my pc - I have a shortcut to the server shared
folder, I clicked and opened, and after 5 minutes I tried again it says
cannot contact to the server or server is not respondig.
From the server Net config server parameter shows the following:
Server Active on: NetBT_Tcpip_{c26f283f-a92c-46e8-a224-03ed86d15656}
{000802de6caf}
NetBT_Tcpip_{c26f283f-a92c-46e8-a224-03ed86d15656}
{000802de6caf}
Netbios Smb<000000000000>
Server hidden - No
Maximum Logged on users- Unlimited
Maximum open files per session-16384
Idle session time<min? 65535
pls advise

Hi Anver,
DNS on the servernic should ** only ** point to the server IP, so get rid of
the 127.0.0.1. Where is the WINS 192.168.16.2 coming from? It should also

Hi Anver,
Please setup the SBS in the way it is supposed to be. Let SBS handle
everything including the access to the internet. Put that second nic from
that w2k box in the server.

Dear,
Thanks for the response, I couldnot back yesterday.
I have checked the server autodisconnect parameters - it seems I
have
already disable this feature(Registry lanman server\paramater
shows
the
value
- 65535).
It is quiet strange why it is happening.
Yesterday I have noticed from my pc - I have a shortcut to the
server
shared
folder, I clicked and opened, and after 5 minutes I tried again it
says
cannot contact to the server or server is not respondig.
From the server Net config server parameter shows the following:
Server Active on:

Server hidden - No
Maximum Logged on users- Unlimited
Maximum open files per session-16384

Dear Marina,
Thanks for the response and links and sorry for my late wakeup, we were off
for last 4 days.
If I reconfigure the server, do I need to change anything on my client side
?, I mean reconfigure them to log in to SBS server(I am not changing the name
of the server and the username or computer name).
After reconfiguring the server, let them log in to the server normally - is
that the correct way
pls advise

Hi Anver,
I don't know if you need to change something on the client side. As long as
they are set to obtain an IP and DNS automatically from your DHCP server
which should be the SBS, no.
If you are talking about a complete reinstall of the server, than you will
have to unjoin the clients and rejoin them after install.

Dear Marina,
Yes complete reinstallation of the server.
I like to know some of the points below please.
1. Is there any way to get the existing shared folders list(who shared and
what kind of permission they got etc etc)
2. For 35 users sbs2000 - is it OK to configure Exchange, SQL and ISA?
3. Is it OK to have two firewall, one ISA(for internet browsing
restrictions) and other is an Hardware Firewall?
4. Is it strange that - I have removed my network cable from pc and I can
still log in to the server mode(in the login screen User name, password, and
logonto the server), and ofcourse I am unable to access any shared or server
resourses.
pls advise

Hi Anver,
I don't know of a way to get the information on existing shared folders,
besides checking them out and write it down yourself.
No problem for 35 users.
No probleme with 2 firewalls, as long as you are using 2 nics in the server.
You have a W2k or XP pc and that one is using cached credentials.
