ADMT and Clustered Servers |
|
|
We have some business-critical clustered servers running Windows 2000 Server
that we need to migrate to our new Windows Server 2003 Active Directory
domain. Can we use the ADMT tool that we have used to migrate all of our
other servers, computers and users to get the job done, and if so, is there
any documentation to help us do this? For instance, after migrating all of
the applicable Service Accounts and enabling the use of the migrated Service
Accounts on the servers, what do we do next, shut down the running
applications, break the cluster, migrate each server, re-establish the
cluster and restart the servers, or what? I have looked everywhere for any
information for using ADMT to migrate clustered servers, but I just can't
seem to find anything. Since the servers are so critical, we can't go into
this thing without knowing for sure that it will work. Your help would be
greatly appreciated. |

Hello,
Thanks for your posting here.
The procedure for doing the move is documented in the following KB Article.
269196 How to move a Windows Cluster Server from one domain to another
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=269196
How to Manually Re-Create the Cluster Service Account
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;269229
Wish it helps!

Hi Bob,
Thank you very much for the reply. I guess I was having a difficult time
finding info because Microsoft doesn't recommend this type of move. I am not
sure at this point what we will do in terms of our migration project.
Again, thank you for the information.
Best Regards.

Based on my knowledge, it should work properly to migrate Windows 2000
cluster to another domain. You can migrate the cluster server after you
finish all the other migration tasks.
In addition, I would like to suggest that you post your questions to the
following news groups:
microsoft.public.windows.server.clustering
The above news groups are dedicated to cluster issues. You can get more
informative advises there.
Have a nice day!
