HTML Viewer not working |
|
|
Hi,
I've installed the HTMLView program for use with Sharepoint portal but can't
get it to work.
It's installed on a seperate server and I've set Sharepoint up as per the
instructions.
Initially, when I tried to open a Word Doc file from a browser, it tried to
open it using WordPad so I removed the File Extension from the list of File
Types on that machine. I also set up the Viewer's config file to always use
the HTML Viewer to open Doc files.
I now get a dialog box which only gives me the option to Save the file
rathger than Open or Save as before so it looks as if it is not trying to use
the Viewer at all.
Any suggestions?
Thanks |

Hi,
From your description, the html view appears to be not working. I'd suggest
you can uninstall the Office 2003 and peroform the installation once more.
At the new setup, specify the MST file in the installation command line
path to apply the HTML view.
The detailed steps are listed below for you:
=================
1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility on your desktop.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301
2. After you install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click Start
menu-> All Programs-> Windows Install Clean Up.
3. Highlight Microsoft Office 2003 entry in the list and then click Remove.
Please don't remove any other entries in the list.
4. Click OK and wait for the process to end.
Note: If you cannot see Microsoft Office 2003 in the list, please ignore it
and move on.
5. Click Exit to close the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.
6. Click Start menu-> Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.
7. Locate the following two registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
8. Right-click on the keys and click Export to back it up. Then delete
those keys.
9. Delete the "Microsoft Office" folder located in the C:\Program Files.
10. Click Start menu-> Run, type "%Temp%" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.
11. Empty the Temp folder.
12. Empty the Recycle Bin.
13. Restart your computer and then install a full version of Office 2003.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any question.

RE: HTML Viewer not working |

Done as you suggested and seem to have isolated the problem more.
My scenario is that I have an area below Topics
On the home page for that area is a list which contains links to the word
documents. If I click on one of
these links I still have the problem.
Howevere if I click on Manage Content from the Actions, then click on the
link for the Document Library
containing the doc files from the Documents and Lists page and finally click
on one of the documents from
within the actual document library page, the HTML Viewer kicks in and works
as expected.
It appears, therefore, to be something to do with trying to access the
document from a link of the main page?
Any ideas?

Hi,
From the doclib, the Html Viewer can work successfully which means your
installation of Html Viewer is ok. For the links on the home page, it still
send the native format of Office file to client, so you still get the old
error. You can follow the direction of the whitepaper section below in the
HTML viewer download package to configure the service, only sending html to
client; no any native data will be written to client then.
Customizing the HTML Viewer to always view files in HTML format
In addition, the Html Viwer service is designed to work with WSS, not SPS
as its full name is:
HTML Viewer Service for Windows SharePoint Services
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C62E0232-9BF6-48FC
-829E-5C34D5C8B15F&displaylang=en)
So if this configuration can't resolve your issue, please feel free to let
me know. I will forward your feedback to Microsoft feedback team which will
help the product team to create better service for you. ThanksŁĄ
