I have SBS server 2000 fully up to date on service packs etc...
I have a client running XP Pro (as do all my clients)
This one client does not recieve it's email in a timely manner. It has
taken up to 45 minutes, sometimes on time but mostly it takes 30 minutes to
get an alert or for the email to show at all.

and I don't know why?

Is wins running on the XP box? Ipconfig/all from server and problem
workstation.

Is file and print sharing enabled in the XP SP2 firewall?

Wins is running on the server not on the PC.
File and print sharing is enabled on the PC
The firewall was running. I disabled it but still expiercing the same
problem. Also when this user clicks on help for Excel or Word it ask for the
installation disc everytime.

If the workstation is running Outlook 2003 in cached exchange mode, please
go out of cached mode and restart Outlook to see if that fixes it. And, if
that works, please let me know.

If you are using some sort of modern Outlook it is there. It may not
be there if you are uing Outlook Express which is not Outlook. Close
everything and open your control panle. Switch to classic view and
click on mail.

I solved the problem. It was the MS firewall setting
