I read Microsoft's article #840675 in KB about FRS limit
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;840675), but
it's not clear to me if the limits apply at the server level or at the
level of each Dfs link replica. More specifically, I have questions
about the following two limitations: (i)A maximum of 64 GB of data
(ii) A maximum of 500,000 files under the replica root.

(i) A maximum of 64 GB of data: I am not sure if this limit applies to
the total amount of data replicated onto a server or it applies to
each share. I would like to think it's the latter case (convenience),
but I am probably wrong. I would like to confirm that if my server
hosts (3) shares for 3 Dfs link replica, the total amount of data
replicated onto these 3 shares should not exceed 64 GB.

(ii) A maximum of 500,000 files under the replica root: If I
understand it correctly, this limitation applies to each share not the
server. If I use the example above, I could have 40,000 (for example)
file on each share making the total number of files replicated on my
server 120,000. Is my understanding correct?

Your comments/clarification will be much appreciated.

64 gig limit. I believe this applies to what the FRS service can handle
given variables like file churn, file size, and number of files. I suspect
MS means 64 gig per server as apposed to 64 gig per replica set (link).
I suspect this because MS posts a 150 link limit per server.
If the 64 gig limit were per link, then FRS should be able to cope with 150
* 64GIG = 9600GIG.
FRS will crash and burn with 9.6 terabytes. So 64 gig limit must be a per
server limit.

500000 file limit. MS means this to be per replica set (link) i think.
Though again, if you scale this out to 150 links * 500000 files per link =
75 million files. Here to, FRS will crash and burn.

Take this article in context with my comments and review "Using FRS an an
Availability Strategy" and "Increasing Data
Availabiltiy by Using FRS" in Chap 2 "Designing and Deploying File Servers"
of the W2K3 Deployment guide.
