What will monitor the Management Server ?? |
|
|
Hi
In what way should I design my MOM setup, if I want to be notified when the
Management Server is down ? I need to get some kind of notification when this
is down, else monitoring is suddely missing on all server !
If the HW is down I will get alert througt our HW alert system, but it the
mom service down on the management server ??
When the MOM service is dying on the Management server is it then sending
some kind of trap / notification message ?

We use Tivoli :-) (no joke) You may want to try another product already
monitoring your NON-Windows Servers?
Health Reporter is made for just this scenerio and is a stand-alone app.

Why not configure a agent rule that monitors the management server in stead
of implement a new product.?
You then get an cross-link check. The management server monitors the agent
(hbeat) and the agent the management server (virtual hbeat..)

We use a multi-layer approach, with a management system to monitor servers,
apps and services and HP Systems Insight Manager, which comes bundled with
our servers, to monitor servers and hardware.
But I liked Michelk's suggestion about the agent rule...

You can use the MOM health reporter or use a third party tool.
We have setup our mom environment so that the central server manages and
monitors the mom servers on the regions. Our central Mom servers runs a
script every five minutes that generates an SNMP trap sent to CA TNG. If the
trap is not received on CA TNG every five minutes there is notifications sent
out from TNG.
This way we are managing the management environment.

Hi there
Would you mind sharing the script?? we have a similar setup with CA
UniCenter so it would be of great help to us :-)
You can email it to me if you like: s_larsen AT danfoss DOT com
