client dynamic update for forward zone not working! |
|
|
I am running 2003 AD with DNS on the DC. Looking in the dns zone entries,
all of the clients have dynamically updated the reverse zone but not the
forward lookup zone. Secure updates is selected for both the forward and
reverse and dns is AD integrated. Any ideas how this can happen, one update
and not the other? TIA.

Need more background on your topology.
1) What OS are the clients?
2) Is there a DHCP server present in this environment?
3) If DHCP is present, how is it configured with respect to updating the
DDNS?

Running 2003 AD but using NT4Emulator key till all remote DC's are
upgraded. All clients are either Windows 2000 or Windows XP. DHCP server is
present and I have option 15 to add our AD domain suffix to clients ip
config. Also, as far as DDNS, it is set/checked as follows:
"dynamically update DNS A and PTR records only if requested by the DHCP
clients."
"Discard A and PTR records when lease is deleted"
This is set at the server level and scope level. These are the defaults as
far as I know since I didn't change anything on this. I can't see how these
settings would not be correct only because the PTR records are being
dynamically updated with no problem and automatically after upgrading from
NT4 to 2003. I have all 2000/XP clients listed in the reverse zone, but only
a few in the forward zone. The only ones listed in the forward zones are
clients that I have set the NeutralizeNT4Emulator keys and one client
without the key is listed. All 2003 servers are naturally listed in the
forward zone as well. Any thoughts? Do I need to change the dhcp DDNS
options since I am running in NT4 domain emulation mode? TIA.
