I'm looking for a document outling the upgrade steps to go from SNA 4.0 SP4
to HIS 2000. I have a domain with 10 SNA servers I need to upgrade. All
servers are running WIN2K. Also, any insight on potential pitfalls would be
appreciated.

Scott,

As you're already on Windows 2000 you're in a good position - I assume you're
happy to upgrade in-place on the existing servers? Just using 3270 and
printing?

(Just had to do an SNA4/NT4 to HIS2004/W2003 upgrade - including some new
hardware/servers - which makes it a bit trickier)

If that's the case then the upgrade is trivial - just upgrade all the
member/backup servers first, one at a time, and do the primary last. Don't use
the HIS2000 admin tools for update on any of the upgraded servers until you've
done the primary. On each one install HIS2000 as an upgrade, then install HIS
2000 SP2.

Any reason you're not going straight to HIS2004?

Any 3rd party SDLC adapters? If so, check that they are supported under HIS.

Neil is spot on of course.

Just wanted to add a link to a KB article which discusses upgrading to HIS
2000 from previous versions (same principle applies for upgrading to HIS
2004):

I have a paper that I am doing a cabana talk on at Tech Ed 2005. It is a high
level overview on upgrading from SNA 4.0 to HIS 2000 and also includes
information on consolidating multiple domains. I guess I will need to know
where to send this.
