Ok, so this is probably going to sound silly to most of you, as it does to
me, but why is it that many people use an exclamation mark at the beginning
of a username for a service account? Is there any good reason for this, or
is this just some unwritten rule of the road sorta thing? Thanks.

I've never come across this convention, but it could be that the exclamation
mark has just about the lowest ASCII value of any usable characters, so will
appear first in an alphabetical list.
