Hello,
When I upload an access 2002 file to a document library, I cannot open
the file via web view or through the application. I cannot even see
the Access Icon next to the file name. I verified that the .mdb
extension is not a blocked file type. Do I have to upload the icon the
same way you do for adobe, or does WSS open MS Access files at all?
Thanks, Tony

Tony I am not an expert but WSS takes whatever files you upload to the site
and places it in either WMSDE or a SQL database. So what is stored on the the
server is not your data but entries in a database of your data. I ran into a
simular issue wih trying to store an Access DB within a WSS site. Hope this
was helpful.

Thanks Gary,

I figured as much. I have a feeling that the military IT department
may have a Group Policy Object that prohibits that type of extension
running through a web folder because the file wants to open on a
logical mapped drive. Since I can't even open an access file through a
web folder, that is my only thought. Will explore and hopefully have a
solution. Thanks, Tony

I wasn't thinking before but here is the error I am having. The msgbox
displays as the application is opening:
"Microsoft Acess cannot open this file"
"This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site.
Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security
problems"
"To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network
location."

Verified that the server and the web folder is in the trusted area of
ie options security. I am on a LAN with no extranet connections. No
outside connections to the domain. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Oh yeah, I do have the ability to put a data access page and open it
through Sharepoint.

Hello one option is to place the the access DB in a share and reference it
that way or to use a sharepoint list to hold the access data. I think its the
issue of what sharepoint does to the data once its stored. I had a simular
question regarding this in late December you might want to look that over. I
will be referring back to it and I will post a link to it.

The issue I had was tying Sharepoint, Access, and InfoPath together. But the
problem was with access. Another suggestion is to create a web part to deal
with the Access DB and the web part will talk to Sharepoint.

Here is what I found.

Microsoft Access 2002 cannot open files from http:// addresses. If you
try to open an Access database file (.mdb) on an intranet Web site by
using either the IP address, FQDN, or NetBIOS name, Access 2002 will
incorrectly report that the file is outside your intranet or on an
untrusted site by displaying the error message in the "Symptoms"
section of this article.
