where are documents stored on server? |

Are documents from document libraries stored as files on the server or are
they in the Database?
Essestially, I am wondering if I can "share" these documents with an FTP
site so that documents posted are also availalbe via ftp to download. I
can't find them on the server so I am wondering if they are in the database.
If so, anyone know of a way to have an ftp server serve them out?

All in the database as images/blobs /depending on which company you are
from).

You can also access the files through a WEBDAV folder ("web folder" in
WindowsSpeak). You could access that with a C# utility application to sync it
with FTP, or you could just access it remotely via the web folder if you have
http/s access to the wss server.
